Lydia Riva was called to the bar in 2002. She attended law school at McGill University. She won the Gale Cup and represented Canada at the Commonwealth Mooting Competition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. While in law school, she volunteered at the Human Rights Commission in Lahore, Pakistan. She articled at the prestigious litigation firm Cavalluzzo Hayes Shilton McIntyre and Cornish.
Lydia has practiced criminal defence for 18 years. She has appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice and Court of Appeal for Ontario.
She is an experienced trial lawyer who has defended hundreds of clients, including defendants charged with Murder, Sexual Assault and Firearm offences.
Lydia is a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association and the Durham Region Law Association.
Deanna is currently a Lawyer Licensing Candidate with the Law Society of Ontario. She will be called to the bar in 2020. She graduated Cum Laude from York University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law and Society. She studied law at Osgoode Hall Law School, and graduated in 2019 with her Juris Doctor degree.
Deanna first gained experience working in criminal law in the summer after her first year of law school, where she volunteered with three criminal defence lawyers. In her second year at Osgoode, she was part of the Osgoode Criminal Law Intensive program where she worked with a reputable criminal defence firm in downtown Toronto. During law school, Deanna was elected as an executive director of the Osgoode Criminal Law Society.
Deanna was also an active mooter at Osgoode, participating in the Gale Cup Moot. She enjoys written and oral advocacy and working with vulnerable clients. Deanna is a member of the Criminal Lawyers’ Association, the Advocates’ Society, the Canadian Bar Association, and the Ontario Bar Association.
