You are a paralegal or legal assistant, or recent graduate from a paralegal or legal assistant program, interested in criminal defence. You want to be an integral part of a litigation team with responsibilities that will evolve over time as the firm grows. You can handle multiple projects and work with minimal supervision. You want to help people in a difficult time in their lives.

Riva Law is a criminal defence firm. Our primary work is conducting criminal trials, often involving the most serious offences in the Criminal Code. JOB DESCRIPTION
This is a full-time position with responsibilities that include:
- Attending remand court in the Ontario Court of Justice
- Conducting various administrative duties including file management
- Drafting and sending correspondence, including requests for disclosure and court documents
- Scheduling meetings and court proceedings
- Maintaining the firm calendar
- Preparing forms for pre-trial meetings, bail hearings, and legal aid budgets
- Conducting client intake
- Acting as a point of contact for clients and sureties
- Invoicing and collecting fees
- Transcribing video and audio statements and recordings
- Ordering office supplies
- Organizing files for trial or appeal
- Maintaining paperless law firm, including scanning client documents and disclosure
QUALIFICATIONS
- Paralegal or related certificate an asset
- University/college degree an asset
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn criminal law procedures
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn MS Office and Cosmolex
